Last year I started styling my Senior Portraits. Here are some tips for planing a styled shoot! Lately, I’ve been recommending
lace and sheer flowy fabrics that let the light through. In contrast to the feminine fabrics…..
boots, hats, and statement jewelery, especially bracelets necklaces makes a great look!
Other accessories to consider for a more complete look are ….. scarves, belts, headbands, cute sox or leg warmers and jackets
and sweaters. Vintage pieces are a favorite of mine and own a collection of fabulous pieces that are used in some VSP shoots!
In addition to collection fab vintage pieces, I am always on the lookout for accessories to add that certain something to the shot.
Personal items that describe who you are can add a deeper meaning to an image. If you have access to a cool car
( especially vintage) or a horse, by all means add these to your photo shoot!
I have a horse myself and love to photograph these majestic creatures.
Ooh La Loft 707-769- 7787 ( in Petaluma) is a great resource and will style 3 full outfits for $50.00!
Hair and makeup are essential! Having it professionally done is highly recommended! I recommend
Melissa Tunzi 707-478-1744. Haley Ghiringelli 707-293-0202 also does a fabulous job in the makeup dept.
A fresh mani/pedi is a good idea as well, hands sometimes get near the face and often the outfit will require open
toe shoes or bare feet.
Since most of my shoots have multiple changes, I suggest mixing up the looks, such as feminine looks with dresses
or skirts then do a casual denim look like jeans and a cute top or cutoffs if you dare! Also consider mixing seasons,
spring /summer colors & styles as well as fall/winter looks. White and Ivory look great mixed in as tops or bottoms
as does black. Solids work best, but a subtle print can look nice especially in a garden setting. Stripes are to be avoided.
Don’t forget the basics like a hair brush, lip gloss and powder or blotting papers if you’re skin is oily. Most of all, the shoot
should be fun and a great experience capturing this time in your life and reflect who you are as an individual!
Madi, a Senior at Casa Grande High School is featured in this post for her fabulous style! I loved all of her outfits
and she was a delight to work. She’s truly a beautiful person inside and out!
